Roger Kellison: BRIEF BIO:
Mr. Kellison recently resumed taking pictures after a 40 year hiatus: digital cameras and printers lured him back. His eclectic photos frequently depict the unplanned and often ironic beauty in the decay of man’s enterprises: huge or small, urban or rural, important or sheer folly – they are often funny and sometimes sad – but all are a part of our best efforts to achieve a meaningful life.
In addition to collage pieces, my images are often drawn from deserted factories, torn posters on city walls, abandoned automobiles and other types of life's residue. The boarded doors, layers of pasted papers, and rusted grillwork, for me, are the tangible evidence of the hopes, dreams, hard work, planning and effort that produced them or the objects and events they advertise.
Sometimes their passing leaves behind a beautiful residue of color and form - most times not. Regardless they eventually are forgotten, revert to a natural state, and disappear into obscurity. I sometimes try - with meager success - to document the passing of life's products.
