The Town of Carrboro invites you to enjoy the artwork by Maria Tadd that will be displayed in the Century Center Gallery. Show starts June 1, 2015 and runs through the end of July.
I love the “magic” of watercolor, the ability to create almost ethereal images as well as those that are heavy and anchored. Being able to select from transparent, opaque and granular pigments provides the artist tools that no other medium offers.
Animals have always touched my heart and soul and are primarily my subjects. As the saying goes, the eyes are the mirror of the soul and therefore it is important that I get the eyes “right” so I can capture the spark that gives them life and tells their story.
Although my work to date has focused primarily on painting animals and birds, more recently I have painted flowers, a fried egg and my first human portrait. I never thought I could paint people, but my portrait was quite successful so at some point I want to further explore portraiture.
My goal for 2015 is to paint looser and larger. I am hoping that after studying Chinese Brush Painting in the early part of this year, I will learn new brush strokes that will add another dimension to my work. I also want to experiment with different colors. At times I use a very small color palette just one each of the primary colors. I try not to use more than 6 colors as I want the painting to feel cohesive.
Special hours for 2nd Friday ARTWALK . 6-9 pm. Galleries are open to the public during regular business hours for the buildings.
