Reception for Stacy Bloom Rexrode
This exhibition will explore the concept of the heirloom. The artist’s works incorporate traditional methods of craft, such as crochet, and materials from the home that are often overlooked or discarded, such as silk flowers, plastic plates and plastic household recyclables. Using these materials, she contends, accentuates the importance of women in the history of resource consumption, reveals hierarchies of value given to objects and highlights similarities between how women and the natural environment are treated. This exhibition, generated by what the artist terms “Third–Wave feminism” is, in short, an interesting dialogue between the artist’s chosen materials and her own femininity. An exhibition not to be missed.
Plenty of parking at the Rosemary Street entrance.
