Ben Long Fresco Drawings from Montecassino

  • Galerie Pied-a- Terre 205 West Weaver Street Carrboro, NC, 27510 United States (map)

Please join us February 8 from 5- 8 for the opening of the exhibition of Benjamin F. Long IV’s fresco drawings from the abbey of Montecassino, Italy, painted in 1975. Long is an American art icon and major contributor to the body of artwork in the 20th and 21st centuries. His North Carolina frescoes are considered state treasures and draw thousands of pilgrims each year to experience his work. This collection of drawings reveal the precision and the subtlety of the artist’s process and gives the viewer the opportunity to witness living art history. Fresco is among the most ancient of arts and the most enduring. Unlike a mural, which is painted on the wall, fresco is the wall, having been painted into the wet plaster with slaked lime so that over time the images grow more vivid, essentially creating their own light from within.

The exhibition runs from February 8 to March 31, 2019 at Galerie Pied-a-Terre and is being offered for sale as a collection. Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 11-6, Sunday from 12-5, and by appointment. We are happy to provide private and group showings for schools and groups interested in learning more about the artist and the process.
