These paintings are inspired by oceans and beaches around the world, including the black and pink sand beaches of Iceland and Hawaii. They are visual representations of the healing and creative power that oceans possess. A portion of sales will go to The 5 Gyres Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses on reducing plastics pollution by focusing on primary research. Kim Long is a recent transplant from Iowa, where she received a BFA in Metalsmithing at the University of Iowa. Cocoa & Honey are the names of her childhood horses; constant companions and evocative of a time when we, as children, made things with our hands for no other reason than we felt like it.
Using 14kt rose gold fill and natural gemstones, C&H is inspired by the simple, beautiful geometry of planted fields and the gentle, rolling hills of rural Iowa.
In 2006, Kim created Kim Sun Designs in Seattle, WA, a line of hand-tooled leather accessories using eco-friendly paints, stains and dyes. These belts, bracelets and keychains will also be available at Areté during the 2nd Friday ArtWalk.
Join us as we welcome local artist, Amanda Abbott, and discover beautiful, poured acrylic, pieces of her soul.
Amanda notes "Art has helped save my life on more than one occasion, and I’d like to return the favor by producing soulful pieces that may help others find a little beauty and empathy in a world that can seem as if it’s trying to drown us."
During the evening, Amanda will also be creating a special piece! Come enjoy light refreshments with us and watch her work her magic.
